Biographical

 

Richard Phelps is the recipient of the 2017 SFTLA "Distinguished Mediator" Award.

 
He is a full-time mediator and arbitrator. He has mediated 2700+ civil cases of all types with a very high resolution rate. He has arbitrated over 285 civil cases;both UM/UIM and stipulated 3rd party.
 
He has volunteered as a Mandatory Settlement Conference Office for San Francisco Superior Court. His 35 years civil litigation and trial experience helps him understand your case's pluses and minuses. He has civil trial experience representing plaintiffs and defendants. He uses facilitation and/or evaluation techniques and other communications skills as needed for your case. Prior to practicing law he worked as a claims adjuster. From 1998 to 2004 he was Co-Chair of the Alameda County Bar ADR Section and produced many MCLE Programs on Mediation and Arbitration.
 
In 2016 he was appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court ADR Committee by the PJ.  His neutral experience also includes refereeing over 1200 soccer games including college, high school, youth competitive, State Cup, adult amateur and semi-pro. He has been assigned to regional high school championships four times. He Co-authored and lobbied into law CCP Section 425.18. He has published articles on mediation and arbitration.

Rates Information

$450 per hour for two party cases. Call for multiple party rates. $360 p/h for Limited Jurisdiction cases.
